10 Panel Drug Test Kit

Posted on: October 5, 2011

The 10-Panel Drug Test Kit is a drug screening diagnostic test that is designed to specifically detect ten (10) drugs and their metabolites including Marijuana, Cocaine, Phencyclidine, Opiates, Methamphetamine, Methadone, Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, and Tricyclic Antidepressant.  The test is based on obtaining highly specific immunochemical reactions in human urine analysis.  The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have established the standard minimum concentration levels for each drug group which is expressed in nanograms per milliliter.  These are 50 ng/ml for Marijuana, 300 ng/ml for Cocaine, 25 ng/ml for Phencyclidine, 2000 ng/ml for Opiates, 1000 ng/ml for Methamphetamine, 300 ng/ml for Methadone, 1000 ng/ml for Amphetamine, 300 ng/ml for Barbiturates, 300 ng/ml for Benzodiazepines, and 1000 ng/ml for Tricyclic Antidepressant.

The drug testing procedure is easy and accurate results can be obtained by following the instruction manual carefully.  The sealed test pouches should not be opened until just about testing is to start.  A fresh urine sample has to be collected first.  Once the test cap is removed, the 10 absorbent wicks are exposed thus the tester should take care not to touch or contaminate them in any way.  The wicks are dipped into the urine sample until migration is visible up to the wicks and across the test panels.  This would take approximately 20 to 30 seconds.  There should be no other part of the testing device that comes in contact with the sample except for the wicks.  Results are obtained within 3 to 8 minutes.  Results obtained after 8 minutes should no longer be interpreted.

Negative results are represented by the appearance of colored lines on the target drug name and the control region.  The intensity of the color has no significance and any color no matter how faint should be interpreted as negative.  However, a very faint line on the test region may indicate borderline cut off levels which may be further tested for confirmation.

Positive results are provided when colored lines appear on the control region but not on the test region.  Again, the intensity in color may vary.  This is considered normal because of the different sensitivity cut off levels of each drug.

Invalid results are provided when no line appears in the control region.  There can be no conclusive results obtained until a control line forms.  In this case, the test should be repeated using a fresh test device.

The 10-Panel Drug Test Kit is essentially used for visual qualitative testing and only provides preliminary test results for the presence of the target drug and its metabolites based on established minimum standards.  Quantitative testing can be done through other chemical methods such as the Gas Chromatography/ Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS).  SAMHSA has established this as the preferred confirmatory method.  Further confirmation of positive test results may be done through laboratory confirmation.

Drug screening can be done using other biological specimens such as blood, saliva, sweat, and hair.  However, urine testing is the most common and the least costly option among those available.  The 10-Panel Drug Test Kit is considered one of the most reliable urine drug testing devices in the market.

The availability of such testing device as the 10-Panel Drug Test Kit has made it easier for companies to comply with mandatory regulations related to pre-employment and random testing of employees.  The device is also used by hospitals, schools, law enforcement agencies and other venues that would require fast and efficient drug testing.
